Meet Working Group Theatre

In advance of the Iowa Arts Summit, taking place June 6 in Des Moines, we’ll be sharing some short profiles and links to works by our dynamic speakers and presenters.

Just four years after its first production, Iowa City’s Working Group Theatre has established a national reputation for telling stories that hit close to home.  The group, led by artistic director Sean Lewis and producing director Martin Andrews, creates original plays, events, and educational programs that tackle familiar subjects, ranging from immigration and the decline in manufacturing to veterans’ issues and Alzheimer’s Disease.

Known for its collaborations with artists and diverse community partners, Working Group Theatre has a long list of supporters, including the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts,  the US Department of Justice, and the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights.

For its special performance at the Iowa Arts Summit, Working Group Theater will perform a scene from its latest play, Out of Bounds, which addresses the growing problem of cyberbullying in our schools.
